Multnomah County Animal Services wants to help Portland Public Schools get the word out about their new public service message, "Keep PPS Schoolyards Safe & Healthy." As part of the campaign, we'd like to remind dog owners that Multnomah County Ordinances require that dogs be leashed when in public places.

After performing a legal investigation and a veterinary examination, Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) reunited Lux the cat with his owners this morning. Lux achieved international fame last week when owners Lee Palmer and Teresa Barker called 911 to report the cat was being aggressive and had trapped them in their bedroom.

Lux the Cat

Lux the cat, who made headlines last week when his owners called 911, is now being cared for here at Multnomah County Animal Services. He was brought in on Monday, March 17 after his owners called us to report an incident and requested he be removed from their home. We are working with the owners to facilitate the best possible outcome for Lux.

Adoptable Shelter Cat

This past autumn, we put out an invitation to the public to take part in a survey about community cats. The goal was to get a better idea of what the community thinks about cats so that we can shape our services to be responsive to community needs.

Shelton, an adoptable rescue dog

Shelton was found with a broken leg in November of 2013 and brought to Dove Lewis. After he was stabilized him, he was brought to Multnomah County Animal Services for care. Shelton's owner never came for him, so MCAS veterinarian Dr. Romney arranged to have his broken leg repaired.

We're pleased to report that Multnomah County Animal Services achieved record live release rates in 2013 for the thousands of dogs and cats that arrive at the community’s only open-door shelter, according to statistics released Tuesday.

Adoptable Cat

As part of the "Cats Safe at Home" (TM) campaign, Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon, Audubon Society of Portland, Washington County Animal Services and Multnomah County Animal Services are asking for the public's participation in a new cat survey. It will take about 5-10 minutes to complete.
