Mel is an introvert, for the time being he prefers to love his people from a distance. We have been working with Mel during his stay at the shelter to get him more used to being around people. He is not entirely afraid of people, but at this point does not want to be touched. Sometimes Mel feels overwhelmed and reacts by hissing just to let you know he's uncomfortable. We cannot predict exactly what he will be like out of the shelter - he may become a loving companion or continue to prefer admiring people from a respectful distance. Mel has lived with other cats and we think an outgoing and social friend may help Mel become more of a "people person". He uses his litter box, is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped already. Mel wants to be an indoor only cat but would absolutely love a cozy catio so he can enjoy the outdoor scenery safely.
