Home 4 the Holidays

Multnomah County Animal Services Participates in the Blue Buffalo Home 4 the Holidays Campaign! Learn about the worldwide movement to adopt shelter pets during the holidays, and how you can enter the #IChoseToRescue contest to win a year supply of Blue Buffalo pet food, and donations for pets at MCAS.

Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) joins thousands of animal organizations from around the world to participate in the annual Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption drive, founded by Helen Woodward Animal Center. The campaign, which runs from Oct. 1, 2017 through Jan. 2, 2018, unites over 4,000 partner organizations, (in all 50 states and in 26 different countries) with a focused goal of placing orphaned pets into loving homes.  MCAS has unofficially participated in the event since the nationwide start on October 1, but is kicking its adoption efforts into high gear with its annual “Days of December” Adoption Special. Adoption fees for all pets, seven months and older, are equal to the day of the month from December 1 – 31.  This means you can adopt a pet for $1 on December 1, for $2 on December 2, and $3 on December 3.

#IChoseToRescue Challenge Returns

Helen Woodward Animal Center and Blue Buffalo are teaming up to give away prizes to adopters and animal shelters participating in the Blue Buffalo Home 4 the Holidays 2017 Campaign.

Pet adoption is both beautiful and life-changing! What better way to do it than share amazing adoption stories on social media.

During Home 4 the Holidays (October 1, 2017, to January 2, 2018) when adopters from Home 4 the Holidays partner organizations tag newly adopted pet photos or video with the hashtag #IChoseToRescue and tag @hwac and @bluebuffalo on Twitter or Instagram, they will be entered to win a year’s supply of Blue Buffalo pet food for their pet and a $1,000 donation to the organization they adopted from. (Hey, that’s us!)

Not on Twitter or Instagram? Not to worry, adopters can post their newly adopted pet right on www.home4theholidays.org.

How Home 4 the Holidays Began

The Home 4 the Holidays pet adoption drive began with a growing concern for the number of rescue facilities closing their doors during the holiday seasons.  In seeking the perfect holiday gift, would-be adopters were forced to resort to pet stores or puppy mills.  Additionally, pet store staffers, untrained to assess the likelihood of a successful animal/family match, contributed to an increased number of pets sent to shelters once the season was over.   The Home 4 the Holidays Campaign asks rescue facilities to keep their doors open and get the word out.  The program has grown into the largest pet adoption drive in the world, and is credited with saving over 13 million pets across the globe since its inception in 1999.

Now, Multnomah County Animal Services invites the community to be a part of the movement by adopting a pet during its Days of December Adoption Special.
