Adoption Event at Oregon Rail Heritage Center Runs at Full Steam

Thank you to the attendees, adopters, volunteers, and hosts of the Adoption Event at Oregon Rail Heritage Center.

Oregon Rail Heritage Center hosted an adoption outreach for Multnomah County Animal Services on Saturday, Sept. 14, featuring adoptable foster pets in the enginehouse and train rides. This was the second year Multnomah County Animal Services partnered with Oregon Rail Heritage Center for an adoption outreach event.

Twenty-nine of the thirty available animals were adopted, including fourteen foster puppies, thirteen kittens, a dog, and a rabbit. In comparison to Last year, three dogs and seven cats found their new homes at the 2023 outreach.

Oregon Rail Heritage Center reports that 545 guests attended the event, and over 200 guests took train rides. At the event, adopters were able to view available pets and meet with adoption counselors for the standard adoption process before taking their new animal companions home.

For Multnomah County Animal Services, this event provided an amazing opportunity for animals in volunteer foster homes to be seen by adopters in one place, and to inform community members about adoption. Even if visitors didn’t adopt at the event, we hope they had a great time, and that they may consider adoption in the future.

Thank you to Oregon Rail Heritage Center for their partnership and for hosting this event for the second year in a row. Their enginehouse with its historical equipment and train rides makes it an incredibly interesting, entertaining, and large venue for this event. We’re so grateful to be invited back into their space, and for their support of shelter animals.

Thank you to our foster volunteers for being present to show their adoptable animals, and for the important work they do to care for shelter animals with special needs. They played a key role in making this event successful. We also thank our shelter volunteers for coming out to provide support.

Thank you to our supporters and the public for attending the event, and for considering pet adoption to provide good homes for the shelter animals of our community.
