Round of Apaws: Makenzie S. Constructs Pet Beds for Girl Scout Gold Award
Thank you to Makenzie S. of Girl Scout Troop 42569 for her ongoing Gold Award project to construct high-quality PVC and durable outdoor fabric beds for shelter pets at Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS).
Makenzie thrilled shelter staff on September 12 when she and her family delivered a carful of fifteen (15) large dog beds, and twenty-two (22) cat beds, immaculately stacked in a helix. Makenzie also has another batch of thirty-five (35) medium size dog beds, and three (3) more cat beds in the works.
Project Impact
MCAS relies on community donations and county purchases of Kuranda Beds for dogs and cats, which can cost as much as $69 each with a manufacturer discount. Makenzie's project represents thousands of dollars of important resources that will have a direct positive impact on the wellbeing of animals at the Troutdale shelter.
Project Supporters
Supporters of Makenzie's Gold Award project include other Girl Scouts, her family, and friends who attended a special work party to build the beds.
Fabric for the beds is durable Phifertex mesh, donated by Phifer, a leading manufacturer of outdoor fabric and materials. PVC and hardware materials for the beds were donated by Home Depot in Troutdale, and Lowe's in Wood Village.
Silver Award
MCAS was also the beneficiary of Makenzie's Silver Award Project in 2016, making pet toys for shelter animals.
Thank you to Makenzie, family, and supporters for your service to shelter animals.
