Round of Apaws: Dog Play Yards and Shelter Grounds See Big Improvements Thanks to Claire Kinley of SiteOne Landscape Supply and Paradise Hardscapes

A huge thank you Round of Apaws to Claire Kinley, her team and suppliers at SiteOne Landscape Supply Clackamas, and Paradise Hardscapes for designing and installing landscaping for the grounds at MCAS, and artificial turf for three dog play yards!

Claire was attending Dog Walking Orientation at MCAS in summer 2024, and asked Tara, MCAS Volunteer Coordinator if she could complete a major project for her Nursery Level 2 Certification to benefit animals at the shelter. 

Claire proposed an outdoor facilities cleanup and makeover, including removing brambles and weeds, planting trees, shrubs, grasses and perennial plants at the entryway, and removing gravel and installing artificial turf in the dog play yards.

Tara worked with Multnomah County leaders and Facilities management to approve the project.

Claire completed landscape design plans for the shelter entry areas and Intake Dog Play Yards. On October 5, 2024, Claire and a crew of volunteers from Paradise Hardscapes put the work into motion, preparing the site, planting donated landscaping supplies, and installing the donated artificial turf.

You can already see how happy the dogs are with their new lawn! The completed project looks amazing and provides huge improvements for the dogs in the yards, and to make the shelter entryway welcoming and green!

Staff and volunteers are also thrilled with the improvements!
