From the Field: Stray Turkeys Cranberry and Russet Transferred to Out to Pasture Sanctuary
Did you know that MCAS Officers respond to pick up many types of animals? From injured wildlife and domestic pets to farm animals, Animal Control Officers have to be prepared for all kinds of scenarios, including wayward turkeys!
On October 14, a City of Gresham employee called MCAS to report two large turkeys wandering around the pond at Red Sunset Park.
MCAS Officers Silva and Baca responded to the park on October 15 with Officers Lynch and Varisco to assist. They found the turkeys, who appeared content to wander around with the ducks and geese at the pond. Officers were able to corral and transport them to the MCAS Troutdale shelter livestock enclosure for their stray hold (3 days) where they waited for an owner to reclaim them.
When the turkeys weren’t reclaimed by the end of their stray hold, the MCAS Transfer Coordinator sought rescue options. Out to Pasture Animal Sanctuary in Estacada responded, and picked up the newly named Cranberry and Russet to join the flock of other Turkeys at the Out to Pasture Sanctuary.
Thank you to our rescue partners, municipal partners, and Animal Services Officers for helping these found Turkeys trot to their new flock!
