Due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis and its cascading economic and social impact, MCAS is focused on a broad approach to support the pets and people of our community. It’s clear that a growing need is to support pet owners feeling the crunch of job and income loss, or who are otherwise negatively impacted and at-risk of not being able to provide for their pets.

While MCAS has traditionally filled the role of supporting stray pets, it’s important for our agency to take a proactive approach to prevent pets from being lost or abandoned in the first place. For this reason, we’re taking important steps to support at-risk pet owners by offering a pet food bank for community members in need. We’re also expanding other pet retention efforts, and working more closely to coordinate services with our other partners and resources in the community, including the Pongo Fund and Oregon Humane Society.

Our Adoption & Outreach Fund can provide support to help keep pets in homes. Donations to this fund are designated to keep pets in families, get them back to their families if lost, or to support adoption into new families if needed.

Examples of programs and services supported by the Adoption & Outreach Fund:

Reuniting lost pets with their people, such as stray pet promotion, or services for lost and found pets.

Preparing and promoting pets for adoption, such as improvements to their living space, grooming services, or adoption advertisements and events.

Promoting pet retention programs, such as outreach for subsidized pet licensing and microchips, or providing services to help owners keep their pets, including a community pet food bank.

Thank you for your support of pets and their people in the community.
