Event description

Sunday Update

  • The No-fee adoption event continues Sunday, June 5, from 12 pm to 4 pm.
  • Approximately 40 pets were adopted on Saturday, but there are still great pets looking for homes.
  • Many of the remaining adoptable animals have some special considerations, including shy cats, and larger, energetic dogs who are looking for adopters who are committed to their training.

People seeking to add a pet to their family are invited to Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) for a fee-waived adoption event in-person at its Troutdale Shelter, June 4 - 5, from Noon to 4 pm.

  • Adoption fees will be waived for all animals
  • Adopters in Multnomah County will receive a temporary license for dogs and cats. Non-Multnomah County residents are also eligible to adopt.
  • Cash and check donations will be accepted to support the event.
  • Online adoptions will not be available during the adoption event.

The adoption event will be supported on-site by Oregon Humane Society (OHS) personnel.

Partnership with Oregon Humane Society

Multnomah County Animal Services prioritizes finding caring homes for adoptable animals and works closely with partners in the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland (ASAP) coalition.

Oregon Humane Society (OHS) has assisted Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) throughout COVID-19 disruptions in staffing and volunteer coordination, and during the seasonal uptick in pet admissions. The OHS Second Chance Program has transferred 47 pets from MCAS to OHS since May 1, and 147 pets since the beginning of 2022.

To help more than 40 pets find loving homes, OHS is assisting with a special adoption event this weekend, June 4 - 5. The event will take place exclusively at MCAS’ shelter at 1700 W Historic Columbia River Hwy in Troutdale, and online adoptions will not take place during the in-person adoption event.

“The partnership between MCAS and OHS is an example of how the animal welfare community is coming together to continue to care for pets and people during nationwide service disruptions and staffing levels affecting virtually every industry,’’ said Cary Stacey, Interim Director of Multnomah County Animal Services, and DCS Deputy Director. “We’re grateful for the support and solidarity of OHS, and our community of regional animal welfare partners.”
